Phlebotomy Technician (NHA CPT)
DMS prepares students for the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) national certification exam through online coursework and hands-on phlebotomy training.
Program Information
- Tuition: $1,780
- Length: 12 weeks / 120 hours
- Online coursework: 110 hours
- Hands-on practice component: 10 hours
- Scheduled DMS hands-on day: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, typically 5–6 hours instructor-led, with additional practice
Hands-On Training
Students receive a brief theory review and practice with multiple needles, tubes, and phlebotomy equipment. Training progresses from 40+ mannequin repetitions to supervised peer venipuncture. Local students may return to DMS for additional supervised practice. Out-of-state students may continue practice with a Phlebotomy Practice Kit.
Tuition Includes
Online coursework, textbook, required program training/materials, hands-on training, lab-related program costs, and applicable program materials.
Separate: $50 registration fee, $95 AHA BLS/CPR, and NHA CPT exam fee.
Language Support
DMS provides Korean- and Spanish-translated online learning support. Korean-speaking students also receive an additional 8-week Korean Zoom support class. Official/core certification materials and the NHA CPT exam are in English.
Admission / Completion
No DMS background check is required for Phlebotomy. Graduation requirements include Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Course Final Quiz ≥80%, hands-on completion, AHA BLS certification, and Final Mock Exam ≥80%.
Certification
DMS program completion does not automatically issue NHA CPT certification. Students must meet applicable NHA eligibility requirements, schedule/pay for the exam, and pass the NHA CPT exam.
Out-of-State & California Students
Out-of-state students may complete online coursework remotely and travel to Texas for the DMS hands-on day. State requirements vary. California has additional state-specific phlebotomy requirements; NHA CPT alone does not automatically qualify a student for California CPT I. California-intent students should review current California requirements and speak with DMS before enrollment.
WIOA
Phlebotomy is currently a DMS WIOA-supported program. Individual eligibility and funding are determined by Workforce Solutions.
High School Students & NHA Provisional Certification
Effective October 1, 2026, current high school or GED students pursuing NHA CPT may be eligible to take the NHA certification exam before graduation when their expected graduation/completion date is within 18 months of the date they pass the exam.
After graduation, NHA-accepted proof of graduation must be submitted to NHA to convert the provisional credential to full certification. All other NHA exam eligibility, training, and hands-on requirements still apply, and NHA determines final exam eligibility.
